Most of Michael Connolly's books have dealt with cops either working within the rules or bending them; here he has an intelligent, highly logical man making up investigatory leg-work as he goes along, and realising as he works that he is as much pursued as pursuer, and that it is not only his own demons that are chasing him. But that motive is too thin to support Pierce's sudden abandonment of his career at such a critical juncture, even if forces unknown to him are setting him up for a fall. Even the opening echoes Hitch's North by Northwest, in which Cary Grant's mistaken interception of a bellboy's page leads to disaster; here it's nanotechnology entrepreneur Henry Pierce's getting a phone call that triggers the trouble. Découverte d'un autre monde et poursuite de la vérité: que lui est-il arrivé? Michael Connelly est toujours bien mais ici on ne se sent pas impliqué comme dans les livres avec Harry Bosch, le détective un peu "hasbeen" au grand coeur, où on apprécie le personnage et la qualité de l'écriture presque lyrique. Il reste des bons éléments mais malheureusement il y a trop de détails techniques, informatique, etc. qui alourdissent l'action. Cependant la fin montre bien le talent de l'auteur, en renouant tous les fils et en laissant de l'espoir pour le futur.
